The Magic Of Swan Lake and River.
Swan Lake and Swan River has an amazing array of adventures for your family looking to frolic and refresh themselves in its shimmering sapphire waters. While 10 miles in length, its width is pleasantly restrained providing the more intimate experience of a large alpine lake.
Kootenai's own flotilla of watercraft lets you carve your way across its glassy surface producing delightful thrills and spills whether you’re skiing, wakeboarding, lake surfing, jet-skiing or hitching a ride on a swiftly towed water toy. Gather family and friends in our pontoon boat and cruise around in comfort and style. Families also love to tube float along the serene stretches that flow beyond Swan Lake.
Love to fish? The fierce fighting bull trout are here in abundance. Among the most lightly fished rivers in Montana, the Swan River’s waters also host northern pike, kokanee salmon, largemouth bass, brook trout and mountain whitefish.
Farther north is the river’s "Wild Mile," with world-class whitewater approaching Class IV. South of the lake, canoe or kayak through the Swan River Wildlife Refuge, a startlingly singular land of oxbow sloughs, marshes and meadowlands. The river’s crystalline waters are so calm and pure they reveal the river floor.
